Battery Rosecrans, the Hundred-Pounders

A 100-pounder Parrott fills the right of the frame, muzzle-on, its crew about it among sandbag merlons, shot and boxes underfoot — Battery Rosecrans, three hundred-pounders strong, with Haas & Peale's signature at the lower corner.
The almanac's siege entries lay these platforms by date: the last heavy gun platform of the second parallel went down on 1 August 1863 — two 8-inch Parrotts in Battery Brown, five 100-pounders in Batteries Rosecrans and Meade. From these boards the guns in this plate helped make Wagner untenable and Sumter a ruin.
