Where the people in this section lived, worked and held property — with the relationship each had to the place, which is not always ownership.
This directory names the relationship rather than assuming one. Owned means title is documented. Rented, boarded and lived mean occupancy, which is a different fact and often the only one the record supports. Where a person was billeted in a house for a season, this site does not call it his home.
A plantation is a tract, not a house. Where the boundary is documented the property is drawn as an area; where it is not, no boundary is invented.
