Fort Putnam, Closer

The FORT PUTNAM signboard again, this time from nearer and lower: the lettered board on its mound, boxes and barrels stacked below, a pyramid of shot on its platform in the foreground and the roofs of the garrison's quarters at the left.

The Library of Congress titles this simply 'closer view of same' — a caption that only works if you have the previous plate, which is exactly how these negatives were meant to be read. Its companion, the wider view of the same signboard, is published in this collection.
