Across the Parade to the Harbor

Another reach of the same ruin, plate 3066 in the series: a corrugated-iron shed roof in the near ground, the parade crossed by tumbled brick, an arched passage standing open at the center, and the harbor lying flat and bright beyond the wall.

The fort in these plates is neither defended nor abandoned — it is simply over. The guns that mattered have gone quiet, the garrison's sheds are settling, and the photographer worked through the place in the spring of 1865 recording what the war had left standing and what it had not.
