This site
Privacy
What this site collects, which is almost nothing, and what the one outbound request in a page is doing.
No accounts, no cookies
There is nothing to register for and nothing to log into. This site sets no cookies, and none of its scripts read or write cookies or browser storage of any kind. We do not collect names, addresses, email addresses or any other personally identifying information from readers, and there is no advertising tracker or behavioral profiling anywhere on the site.
Search runs in your browser
The site search downloads its index and runs entirely in your browser. What you type into it is not sent to a server and is not recorded.
The banner at the foot of the page
The single advertising banner is served by ArtifactSearch, which is another Historical Publications LLC site. Your browser asks artifactsearch.com for the banner that is currently booked, and — if the banner is actually scrolled into view — records that it was seen, and records a click if you click it. What is sent is the banner's identifier, the name of this site, and the time. There is no third-party ad network, no advertising SDK, no cookie and no profile of you. As with any request your browser makes, artifactsearch.com sees the connection itself.
Hosting
The site is served by Cloudflare Pages, which keeps the ordinary server logs any host keeps in order to serve pages and resist abuse.
Links out of the site
This site links out constantly — to archive.org, to the Library of Congress, to library catalogs and to other holders, because that is how a citation is checked. When you follow one you leave this site, and the privacy practices of wherever you land are theirs, not ours.
If you write to us
Your message and your address are used to answer you and for nothing else. There is no mailing list here, and your address is not added to one, sold, rented or shared.
