Folly Island
Gillmore's Headquarters, Folly Island

Original scanLibrary of Congress
A mounted albumen print with its title printed on the mount: GENERAL Q. A. GILLMORE'S HEAD QUARTERS, FOLLY ISLAND, S.C. A log hut with a plank stair stands among pines, with tents and a frame building behind it.
The Library of Congress credits the print to G. T. Lape — a name that appears nowhere else in this collection — which is a useful reminder that the Department of the South had more photographers working it than the two firms whose negatives dominate the surviving record. Gillmore's own bombproof on this island is published alongside, from Haas & Peale's siege series.
