Affair at Murray’s Inlet

An affair at Murray’s Inlet on the Waccamaw coast — one of a running series of small fights there through 1863 as Federal boat crews burned salt works and schooners in the creeks behind the beach.

Dahlgren wrote from the flagship Philadelphia in Charleston Harbor about the disposition of the schooner George Mangham, in conformity with the Navy Department’s instructions. The war on this station had become paperwork about vessels nobody needed any more.
