The Federal evacuation of James Island began, and ran to 7 July. The army had come within sight of Charleston’s steeples and was pulled back to the sea islands; it did not set foot on James Island in force again until the city had already been abandoned.

Sixteen shots at the fort, six missing. Lieutenants Claiborne and Rhett of the 1st South Carolina Infantry were relieved by Lieutenants Quattlebaum and Stoney of the same command. Wagons hauling on Morris Island. Everything as usual.
