The city sixteen years before secession, drawn street by street. This is the Charleston the photographers came to: Cook arrived in 1849, Osborn in 1852, Quinby in 1857, and the King Street of this plan is the King Street their galleries stood on.

It carries no house numbers — almost no city plan of the period does. That is the whole difficulty with placing a wartime address, and no map found in this search solves it.
