The quartermaster at Charleston reported that he already had a workshop in the city able to repair all the worn-out wagons in the neighborhood, and asked for ten wheelwrights and five blacksmiths to be ordered to report to him. He was also setting up a wagon shop at Orangeburg.

Beauregard’s headquarters asked General Ripley whether Fort Sumter had water enough, and had a list drawn up of the guns still available in the fort. The ruin now held a garrison that had to be fed, watered and relieved entirely by rowboat, at night, under fire — and it was, without a break, for another seventeen months.
