Beauregard acknowledged a telegram from the Adjutant-General communicating information of an extension of Federal operations. Two weeks later the Federals moved on Pocotaligo, and were beaten back.

Federal working parties revetted Battery Gregg, replacing the 10-inch columbiad on its northeast angle with a 200-pounder Parrott and putting a mortar bed in a new battery to the east. Traverses were going up against the fire of the James Island guns. Every one of these works was aimed at Fort Sumter or at Charleston.
