The chief engineer’s office forwarded a report on the condition of the rope obstructions across the harbor. The rope entanglement, meant to foul propellers between Sumter and Moultrie, was inspected and repaired all through the siege.

Beauregard worked out that Savannah had thirty-four companies on duty as heavy artillery while the number available to man every battery around Charleston did not exceed thirty-eight.
