Harness that gives way
Rain until ten. The James Island batteries were being rearmed under orders issued two days earlier, and the transfer of the guns had to be done with the light artillery’s horses and harness — much of which, the journal notes, gave way or was otherwise injured. Moving a 10-inch columbiad through wet sand cost more than the gun was worth.
