An embrasure masked with sandbags

The Federals threw up another line of works from the southwest side of Battery Gregg to the marsh and masked an embrasure bearing on Fort Johnson by filling it with sandbags. Two mortars were thought to be in position east of Gregg. The Confederates fired all day and drew no reply.

Movement toward the south end of James Island

The Federal officer commanding on Long Island reported observing the enemy moving toward the south end of James Island. Every island in the harbor had a lookout on it, and every lookout reported daily.
