Expedition to the Doboy River

A five-day Federal expedition from Beaufort to the Doboy River in Georgia. Between the fall of Port Royal and the Morris Island campaign, the war on this coast was conducted almost entirely by boat parties working the rivers.

1863Fort Sumter

A visit to the fort, and a plan

An officer reported that, in pursuance of the commanding general’s views, he had visited Fort Sumter with the chief engineer and consulted the engineer on the spot. Everything done at Fort Sumter after September 1863 was engineering, not gunnery.
