Three days of Federal operations on Little Folly Island. Under cover of the scrub and sand ridges at the north end of Folly, Gillmore’s engineers were building the batteries that opened the Morris Island campaign — forty-seven guns and mortars, hidden four hundred yards from the Confederate pickets.

From the First Military District: three companies, and if possible the whole of the Charleston Battalion, with seventy-five men from Savannah, would be sent over to reinforce James Island. The Federals were already ashore on Little Folly, and Charleston was watching the wrong island.
