1863Battery Wagner

The first gun laid against Wagner

The ordnance corps mounted one 10-inch siege mortar in Battery O’Rorke — the first piece placed in position against Battery Wagner. Four 30-pounder Parrotts went in the same day at 1,830 yards. From fifteen pieces on the fifteenth, the Federal siege train on Morris Island grew to over a hundred guns.

Thirty-eight shots, forty-eight shells

Thirty-eight Parrott shots and forty-eight mortar shells at the fort in the night, and one enslaved workman severely wounded. Firing very slow in the morning from two guns in Wagner and one in Gregg.
