Cadets fire on the Star of the West
Coming over the bar at first light, the Star of the West was fired on by a masked battery on Morris Island manned by cadets of The Citadel, and then by Fort Moultrie. Anderson kept Sumter’s guns silent. The steamer turned about and stood out to sea. Three months before the bombardment, South Carolina had fired on the flag and been answered with nothing.
