Captain Colhoun with one officer and forty enlisted men of Company A, Lucas' battalion of regular artillery, relieved Lieutenant Kemper and forty-five men. The number of the fleet remained the same. So did nearly everything else.

Skirmishing near Pocotaligo as Sherman’s right wing gathered for the march north. Charleston’s garrison — some 10,000 men under Hardee, spread from the harbor forts to the Ashepoo — was about to become the defense of a place no longer worth defending.
