Lieutenant Craig of the 21st South Carolina and fifty men were relieved by Lieutenant Galloway of the 23rd with fifty men. The morning being hazy, no observation of the fleet could be taken. At eight in the evening there was musketry on the water.

Union forces occupied Camden, and Joseph E. Johnston formally took command of the Army of Tennessee and all troops in the Department of South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. Hardee’s Charleston garrison, marching north, became part of the last Confederate army in the field east of the Mississippi.
