A battery sent to the mountains

Beauregard ordered Captain Bachman’s company of light artillery to report at Greenville, at the far end of the state. Even at the height of the second bombardment, the department’s commander was moving single batteries around South Carolina to meet troubles two hundred miles from the harbor.
