“President Young refused to give up the coin; forcible possession taken; guard placed over it; where shall it be sent?” The Confederate authorities at Charleston seizing specie from a railroad company, and asking Richmond what to do with it.

Rain and haze; only twenty-nine shots from Simkins and three from Cheves, and no reply. About sixty men worked on the bomb-proof at Battery Haskell and ten on the mortar platform. Confederate signalmen again intercepted and copied Federal flag messages.
