Skirmish at Pocotaligo, on the Charleston and Savannah Railroad. Every Federal move toward that railroad brought on a fight, and the railroad survived every one of them until Sherman.

The Keystone State and James Adger chased and boarded the English screw steamer Elizabeth — formerly the Miramon — off Charleston, bound from Nassau with saltpeter, lead, kerosene, tin, acids, drugs, rope and paper. The cargo is the point: this is what the Confederacy actually needed, and what the blockade was actually about.
