Beauregard’s engineers pressed the ring closed through March — the iron-clad floating battery moored off Sullivan’s Island, mortars sited at Fort Johnson and Mount Pleasant, the Cummings Point ironclad battery finished with railroad rail. Anderson watched the work through a glass and reported every gun.

The Federals resumed firing on the east angle and ceased after a few rounds. The report names the previous day's wounded: William Scarborough of Company D, 21st South Carolina, severe fracture of the clavicle and humerus, and another man beside him. In the fort's daily returns, the wounded are always named.
