Battery Brown, and a splinter-proof latrine
The parapet of Battery Brown was finished and the platforms begun; a lookout of sandbags went up on the big magazine, and — the journal notes it as necessary — a splinter-proof latrine on the magazine’s west side. Everything a man did on Morris Island in August 1863 had to be done under overhead cover.
