The Wabash gives place to a sailing sloop
Gunboats, transports and small steamers worked in and out of the Stono all day, and about forty men were seen carrying plank from Horse Island to the batteries at Green Creek. Off Charleston bar the frigate Wabash had been replaced by a small sloop of war without steam — a quiet sign that the navy’s weight was shifting elsewhere.
